Friends, It’s no surprise that we ALL have been significantly impacted by inflation, the after-shock of covid, and all the new worry that comes into our home when we think, “Do I have all that I need?” and “Can I afford to live at the pace I was going before?” Maybe you’ve slowed down your extra spending this year, perhaps you’re like me and even when things are good you still like to be diligent with that money God gave you and spend it wisely. I wasn’t always a saver or savvy shopper.

In fact, I was a shopaholic who ran up her credit to the wazooooo and I had to take an honest hard look at myself and see what was the root cause of my toxic and poor spending habits. Mainly distracting from my ACTUAL FEELINGS was the culprit every time. So now that we have recognized that much of our distraction with shopping came from a desire to feel good all the time. I’ve decided to be okay with feeling those BIG - SCARY - AWFUL - FEELINGS and sit with them to learn what they are trying to teach me.

I am a huge advocate of journaling and one of the MAIN lessons my new book for teens, The Butterfly Key, focuses on; is the lesson of being in tune with self by developing a LIFE-CHANGING habit of journaling those super uncomfortable feelings. In the past, avoiding hard feelings held me captive from being my most authentic, brave, and clear-minded self! But now, with practice and prayer, I feel attuned with HOW I feel and can direct that energy to more fruitful energy like self-care, turning my pain into art and service. I don’t know about you friend but I never learned HOW to deal with my flighty emotions….

And emotional shopping is what I crave when I’m feeling upset. So I have to give myself a pep talk about turning a NEW LEAF and partnering with God to feel all my feelings. I also think about my husband who is counting on me to partner with him on our finances! We now implement safety guardrails from spending frivolously by making a commitment to follow a monthly budget as a family (true story, a budget is our freedom to financial peace) and it’s been one of the main reasons Doug and I have been able to accomplish so many of our financial goals. We deliberately and TOGETHER in a monthly budget meeting give every aspect of our lives a BUDGET FOR THAT MONTH. It’s been life-changing. It does get a little heated most times if you know what I mean. But Doug and I are faithful to do this because we know that in the long run, we BOTH will feel so much better after tackling a hard conversation as a team.

With your budget and financial freedom in mind, we are going to be shifting our mindset for this year on the blog and teach you how to save on clothing, how to budget for your fun-beauty things, and how to keep yourself from the burden of credit debt. I love you so stinking much and desire you to be fruitful in all areas of your life. If we’re just looking fancy and cute and we have a financial mess; our life can feel out of alignment. I hope you know I am just a person who makes many mistakes and will never be a “perfect content creator” but I deeply care about YOU. Yes, just you and your well-being are my number one priority. This year we will be focused on finding simplicity in all areas and one way I can think of doing that is by being more mindful of what I write and share on this blog. Here are some tips from me to you for how you can save money on your fashion and clothing buys this year!

Here are 11 winter coats that are currently in my closet that have blessed my life and take me from day to night. To sporty or elegant. I made a video so that you can see them in action and have an idea of what a well-rounded winter coat closet looks like to me. Mind that this is my job and I wear lots of coats. They have been a part of my delight to incorporate as the years have gone by.

6 TIPS TO SAVE MONEY WHEN SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES

  1. Get clear on what you already have. Take out all of your clothes (including all your Winter coats) so that you can take a REAL clear inventory of what you currently own.

  2. Edit that closet like nobody’s beeswax! Be ruthless and truthful. If you don’t wear it, love it, or fit it… get it out of your space! You don’t need the judgy vibes of the TOO-SMALL clothes that don’t fit you or like your body type! That doesn’t really serve you. Trust me in the space of your closet. Less is MORE.

  3. Donate what you want and return the items that bring you the most joy. I love curating my space like a little boutique. What you see you wear.

  4. Get a vision for your Winter Wardrobe Style. Pick three style words that you want to shoot for; Sophisticated, modern, feminine, edgy, classic, preppy, sporty, elevated, minimal etc…

  5. Figure out what kinds of outfits you like. Make a Pinterest board with Winter Outfits you love and pick out the items the person has on and shop your own closet. Do you have the camel coat with the jeans and the cute white blouse?

  6. Write down any wardrobe holes. What do you actually NEED in your closet? Here’s a Free Printable Winter Wardrobe list we curated for you to print if you’re curious to know what I deem a WEARABLE Winter wardrobe. Full of basics that you can mix and match!

  7. Wait to shop those items if you can, at the end of a season, for the necessities OF that season. For YOUR NEXT Winter, and so on and so forth. Oh my did that make sense to you? haha! Wow. Leave me a comment below and let me know if we’re tracking!
