My Wedding Ring Doesn’t Fit Anymore | Getting My Ring Resized At AK Jewelers!

c/o Thank you to AK Jewelers for collaborating with me on this post!

I remember the moment vividly when my hand started tingling with pain and I had an odd feeling in my hands that indicated my ring was too small. I didn’t want to think about that being the truth. I brushed it off and decided perhaps my hands had swelled because of the heat! This ring, once a symbol of our love and commitment, now mirrored the changes life had etched into my being. It was a bittersweet realization that spoke of growth and victory, yet also reminded me of the challenges of these fifteen years. As I gently set the ring aside, I couldn't help but feel a twinge of nostalgia for the days when it fit perfectly, snugly, a constant reminder of a love that was held by the love of Jesus towards both Doug and I.

It was tough for me to accept the fact that I didn’t fit into my wedding ring anymore. So first I had to take off my pride and then the ring! And when I did, It revealed a huge indent on my finger and hurt skin around it. It felt so uncomfortable and so did my soul. I couldn’t fathom I didn’t fit my ring anymore. My initial reaction was to feel ashamed that I had to think of resizing it.

The enemy whispered into my ear. “You are too big for your wedding ring and it doesn’t fit you anymore.”

I asked a friend what they would do and immediately she suggested I go get it re-sized! She helped me by encouraging me and praying for me. Sometimes it seems like things like this shoulnd’t matter to us. But if we allow God to minister to our hearts we can see ourselves a little bit better and understand why we feel the way we do. It’s an invitation to know ourselves and God better. After pressing into the discomfort, I realized it wasn’t just about the size for me. It had so many complex layers, like that of an onion. So I sat with the discomfort of the pain in my soul and in my finger. I decided it would be better for me to resize it to a bigger ring and not make it mean anything else other than I’ve evolved out of the body I had fifteen years ago and I think that’s okay!

I’ve learned to honor the person I’ve become and little by little I’ve been able to embrace ALL of me. Kind of like when I finally bought pants in my new size! I’m learning to embrace the woman I am today. The parts that are good and those parts that are not so good. The broken and the awesome. The healed and the healing.

Sometimes we get stuck in these ruts and patterns that we need to challenge. Either by opening up to God about it or to someone whom we can trust.

I don’t know if you’re on this blog post because you are also experiencing the reality of not fitting into your wedding ring, if you are, I hope this is MAJOR encouragement to you and your heart, soul and FINGER! Know that you are beloved by God no matter what and that YOU are important to take care of.

I got a friend’s referral to visit a jewelry shop in Sacramento, AK Jewelers! Excited about the possibility of my ring fitting better, I immediately went in to get a quote. AK Jewelers took a rather painful part of my story and made a GORGEOUS version of my wedding ring!

AK Jewelers in Sacramento is a destination of exquisite craftsmanship and timeless beauty. It's a family-owned shop with warm customer service! Sofia met my gaze as I walked in the door and she immediately helped me to figure out what size I needed to go up to. She took a good expert look at my ring and suggested in a few months I should replace the prongs and head to protect my diamond. I decided to do the whole of it then and there! I had two of my rings sized up, as well as the prongs and head changed to protect my diamond! Sofia was kind, efficient and made an uncomfortable situation for me super awesome with her customer service!

When Lidia the “Sparle Specialist” called me a few weeks later and told me my ring was ready to pick up, I bolted to AK Jewelers! I really wasn’t ready for the SPECTACULAR result. My ring felt like a UPGRADE of a ring. Sister! I can’t even tell you how joy-filled I was. My heart soul and body said yes to the ring and I felt totally energized for the NEW ME.
