Shop your own space FIRST for items that might be of good use in a different space. For example, we took this old surfboard and spray painted it black to give it new life as a towel hanger. We also, spray-painted chairs that looked gross and dingy into a shiny black color that instantly revamped them for the aesthetic we were going for in our backyard.

2. Clean & Edit Your Outdoor Space
There’s nothing better than getting that outdoor broom or pressure washer and just giving your outdoor living area a good ol’ scrub down! It will make you feel better and give you a clean slate if you will for all the beauty and wonder you’re about to create! Think of this as a good workout and a chance for you to start on your tan! Blast your music and get to work! Remember, the thought is more overwhelming than the action. So if you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, just start with ONE step of progress or action. It will give you momentum for a BIG PROJECT!

3. Create Your Backyard Vision + A Mood Board
There is no better way to start a project than to begin with the end in mind. Think about what you want your backyard to feel like. Give your backyard a couple of areas to enjoy. If you like reading outside, create a hammock moment for you to read. If you like to sunbathe create a space that is ready for you like a 5-star hotel. If you like to garden. Make your backyard a space you’d like to hang out in and garden setting with all the tools and supplies you need. If you have kids, make areas for them to play. My point is. Your backyard might be one singular space. But on a paper break it down into areas that you can have different vibes or activities or moments in. For example, our backyard is now separated into 7 moments. Hammock, poolside, dining, shady workout area, fire pit, play tree, outdoor living room! But before it was just this big space with no direction. We had to design what we wanted out of every inch of our space.

4. Know That You And Your Backyard Are Enough
So much of our lives are waisted comparing and wishing we had what others have. My final tip is for you to enjoy the space you’re in. NO matter the space. I pray that you’d take what you have right this second and no matter the space or your budget, that you’d treat yourself and your backyard with ROYAL TREATMENT. You are enough. Your backyard is enough. I love looking at other people’s projects for the sake of inspiration. Not to dwell on the fact that they have more than me. Let’s face it.
